Job 5
1“Call now; is there any who will answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn? 2and jealousy kills the simple. For resentment kills the foolish man, 3but suddenly I cursed his habitation. I have seen the foolish taking root, 4They are crushed in the gate. Neither is there any to deliver them, His children are far from safety. 5and take it even out of the thorns. The snare gapes for their substance. whose harvest the hungry eats up, 6neither does trouble spring out of the ground; For affliction doesn’t come out of the dust, 7as the sparks fly upward. but man is born to trouble, 8I would commit my cause to God, “But as for me, I would seek God. 9marvelous things without number; who does great things that can’t be fathomed, 10and sends waters on the fields; who gives rain on the earth, 11those who mourn are exalted to safety. so that he sets up on high those who are low, 12So that their hands can’t perform their enterprise. He frustrates the devices of the crafty, 13the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong. He takes the wise in their own craftiness; 14and grope at noonday as in the night. They meet with darkness in the day time, 15even the needy from the hand of the mighty. But he saves from the sword of their mouth, 16and injustice shuts her mouth. So the poor has hope, 17Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty. “Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects. 18He injures, and his hands make whole. For he wounds, and binds up. 19yes, in seven no evil shall touch you. He will deliver you in six troubles; 20in war, from the power of the sword. In famine he will redeem you from death; 21neither shall you be afraid of destruction when it comes. You shall be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, 22neither shall you be afraid of the animals of the earth. At destruction and famine you shall laugh, 23The animals of the field shall be at peace with you. For you shall be allied with the stones of the field. 24You shall visit your fold, and shall miss nothing. You shall know that your tent is in peace. 25Your offspring as the grass of the earth. You shall know also that your offspring * shall be great, 26like a shock of grain comes in its season. You shall come to your grave in a full age, 27Hear it, and know it for your good.” Look this, we have searched it, so it is.
