Job 4

1Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered, 2But who can withhold himself from speaking? “If someone ventures to talk with you, will you be grieved? 3you have strengthened the weak hands. Behold, you have instructed many, 4You have made firm the feeble knees. Your words have supported him who was falling, 5It touches you, and you are troubled. But now it has come to you, and you faint. 6Isn’t the integrity of your ways your hope? Isn’t your piety your confidence? 7Or where were the upright cut off? “Remember, now, whoever perished, being innocent? 8and sow trouble, reap the same. According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity, 9By the blast of his anger are they consumed. By the breath of God they perish. 10and the voice of the fierce lion, the teeth of the young lions, are broken. The roaring of the lion, 11The cubs of the lioness are scattered abroad. The old lion perishes for lack of prey. 12My ear received a whisper of it. “Now a thing was secretly brought to me. 13when deep sleep falls on men, In thoughts from the visions of the night, 14which made all my bones shake. fear came on me, and trembling, 15The hair of my flesh stood up. Then a spirit passed before my face. 16A form was before my eyes. Silence, then I heard a voice, saying, It stood still, but I couldn’t discern its appearance. 17Shall a man be more pure than his Maker? ‘Shall mortal man be more just than God? 18He charges his angels with error. Behold, he puts no trust in his servants. 19whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth! How much more, those who dwell in houses of clay, 20They perish forever without any regarding it. Between morning and evening they are destroyed. 21They die, and that without wisdom.’ Isn’t their tent cord plucked up within them?
