Job 33
1“However, Job, please hear my speech, and listen to all my words. 2My tongue has spoken in my mouth. See now, I have opened my mouth. 3That which my lips know they shall speak sincerely. My words shall utter the uprightness of my heart. 4and the breath of the Almighty gives me life. The Spirit of God has made me, 5Set your words in order before me, and stand up. If you can, answer me. 6I am also formed out of the clay. Behold, I am toward God even as you are. 7neither shall my pressure be heavy on you. Behold, my terror shall not make you afraid, 8I have heard the voice of your words, saying, “Surely you have spoken in my hearing, 9I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me. ‘I am clean, without disobedience. 10He counts me for his enemy. Behold, he finds occasions against me. 11He marks all my paths.’ He puts my feet in the stocks. 12for God is greater than man. “Behold, I will answer you. In this you are not just, 13because he doesn’t give account of any of his matters? Why do you strive against him, 14yes twice, though man pays no attention. For God speaks once, 15when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed; In a dream, in a vision of the night, 16and seals their instruction, Then he opens the ears of men, 17and hide pride from man. That he may withdraw man from his purpose, 18and his life from perishing by the sword. He keeps back his soul from the pit, 19with continual strife in his bones; He is chastened also with pain on his bed, 20and his soul dainty food. So that his life abhors bread, 21His bones that were not seen stick out. His flesh is so consumed away, that it can’t be seen. 22and his life to the destroyers. Yes, his soul draws near to the pit, 23an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show to man what is right for him; “If there is beside him an angel, 24‘Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.’ then God is gracious to him, and says, 25He returns to the days of his youth. His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s. 26so that he sees his face with joy. He restores to man his righteousness. He prays to God, and he is favorable to him, 27‘I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it didn’t profit me. He sings before men, and says, 28My life shall see the light.’ He has redeemed my soul from going into the pit. 29twice, yes three times, with a man, “Behold, God does all these things, 30that he may be enlightened with the light of the living. to bring back his soul from the pit, 31Hold your peace, and I will speak. Mark well, Job, and listen to me. 32Speak, for I desire to justify you. If you have anything to say, answer me. 33Hold your peace, and I will teach you wisdom.” If not, listen to me.
