Proverbs 6

1My son, if you have become collateral for your neighbor, if you have struck your hands in pledge for a stranger; 2You are ensnared with the words of your mouth. You are trapped by the words of your mouth. 3since you have come into the hand of your neighbor. Press your plea with your neighbor. Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself, Go, humble yourself. 4nor slumber to your eyelids. Give no sleep to your eyes, 5like a bird from the snare of the fowler. Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, 6Consider her ways, and be wise; Go to the ant, you sluggard. 7which having no chief, overseer, or ruler, 8provides her bread in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest. 9When will you arise out of your sleep? How long will you sleep, sluggard? 10a little folding of the hands to sleep: A little sleep, a little slumber, 11and your scarcity as an armed man. so your poverty will come as a robber, 12is he who walks with a perverse mouth; A worthless person, a man of iniquity, 13who motions with his fingers; who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, 14who devises evil continually, who always sows discord. in whose heart is perverseness, 15He will be broken suddenly, and that without remedy. Therefore his calamity will come suddenly. 16yes, seven which are an abomination to him: There are six things which Yahweh hates; 17hands that shed innocent blood; haughty eyes, a lying tongue, 18feet that are swift in running to mischief, a heart that devises wicked schemes, 19and he who sows discord among brothers. a false witness who utters lies, 20and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching. My son, keep your father’s commandment, 21Tie them around your neck. Bind them continually on your heart. 22When you sleep, it will watch over you. When you awake, it will talk with you. When you walk, it will lead you. 23and the law is light. Reproofs of instruction are the way of life, For the commandment is a lamp, 24from the flattery of the wayward wife’s tongue. to keep you from the immoral woman, 25neither let her captivate you with her eyelids. Don’t lust after her beauty in your heart, 26The adulteress hunts for your precious life. For a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread. 27and his clothes not be burned? Can a man scoop fire into his lap, 28and his feet not be scorched? Or can one walk on hot coals, 29Whoever touches her will not be unpunished. So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife. 30if he steals to satisfy himself when he is hungry: Men don’t despise a thief, 31He shall give all the wealth of his house. but if he is found, he shall restore seven times. 32He who does it destroys his own soul. He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding. 33His reproach will not be wiped away. He will get wounds and dishonor. 34He won’t spare in the day of vengeance. For jealousy arouses the fury of the husband. 35neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts. He won’t regard any ransom,
